Introduction

L’ASENO DE PROUVENCO or “Saumo” (term for female donkey in Provencal Language) was established by Georges Robbe in 1988.

The creation was the result of old childhood memories: his father was a civilian contractor who was responsible for the equine drawn carriages during the 40’s at the military base of Frejus, Provence, France. Mr Robbe the father taught the Senegalese and Moroccan riflemen how to hitch their wagons with 3 mules or horses side by side.

Georges bought his first donkeys along with his first track of land so they would help keep the brush down and protect the land from fire.
Through the years the herd and the property grew. In 1993 Isabelle (former CSO rider) joined him. Together they expended the breeding to include ponies and mares and started to build the facilities to arrive in 2004 with a solid herd.
